Okay, girlfriend, grab your coffee (or wine, no judgment) because we need to have a serious chat about all the BS myths floating around about menopause. You know what grinds my gears? The amount of straight-up LIES we've been fed about this totally natural life transition. Let's burn some of these myths to the ground, shall we?
Myth #1: Menopause Happens at 50, Period
THE TRUTH: Girl, I wish it were that predictable. While the average age is 51, menopause can happen anywhere between your early 40s and late 50s. Some women experience it even earlier due to surgery, medical treatments, or just genetic luck of the draw. Perimenopause (the fun warm-up act) can start in your 40s or even late 30s. So if you're 43 and thinking "this can't be menopause yet," surprise! Your body didn't read the memo.
Myth #2: Hot Flashes Last a Year or Two, Max
THE TRUTH: Laughs in night sweats. The average duration of hot flashes is 7-10 years. YEARS. Some lucky souls get them for just a few months. Others? Over a decade. It's like your body is playing the world's longest prank on you. Planning around this isn't being dramatic—it's being realistic.
Myth #3: Weight Gain Is Inevitable and Unstoppable
THE TRUTH: Look, is it harder to maintain your weight during menopause? Absolutely. Your metabolism shifts, you might lose muscle mass, and hormones are doing their chaotic thing. BUT—and this is important—it's not a done deal. Strength training, adequate protein, managing stress, and yes, probably eating fewer cookies than you'd like (sorry) can make a huge difference. You're not powerless here, even though it might feel that way when your jeans suddenly don't zip.
Myth #4: Menopause Ruins Your Sex Life Forever
THE TRUTH: Okay, real talk—vaginal dryness and decreased libido are legitimate symptoms. But "ruins forever"? Nope. There are solutions: lubricants, moisturizers, hormonal treatments, and pelvic floor therapy. Plus, some women actually feel MORE interested in sex post-menopause because—plot twist—they're not worried about pregnancy anymore. Your sex life doesn't end at menopause; it just might need a little reboot and some creative problem-solving.
Myth #5: You Just Have to Suffer Through It
THE TRUTH: This is perhaps the MOST dangerous myth. No, bestie, you do NOT have to white-knuckle your way through debilitating symptoms while everyone tells you it's "just natural." Yes, menopause is natural. So is childbirth, and we invented epidurals for that.
HRT (hormone replacement therapy), lifestyle modifications, non-hormonal medications, therapy, and coaching support are all legitimate options. At Priceless Coaching, we're all about helping you navigate this transition with tools, strategies, and support—not just gritting your teeth and bearing it.
Myth #6: Once Menopause Hits, You're "Old"
THE TRUTH: Excuse me while I laugh directly in the face of this nonsense. You could have 40+ years of life ahead of you. That's not "old"—that's practically half your life still to go! Some of the most powerful, successful, creative women are in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. Menopause is a transition, not a finish line. You're not declining; you're entering a new phase. Act accordingly.
Myth #7: All Women Experience Menopause the Same Way
THE TRUTH: If I had a dollar for every time someone said "my mother barely noticed menopause, so you'll be fine," I could retire early. Every woman's experience is different. Some breeze through with minimal symptoms. Others feel like they're living in a hormonal tornado. Neither experience is more "valid"—they're just different. Stop comparing your journey to anyone else's.
The Real Truth
Here's what nobody puts on a poster: menopause is wildly individual, sometimes really tough, and absolutely manageable with the right support and information. You deserve accurate information, compassionate care, and strategies that actually work.
